  • Personal Exercise Program

    Rather workout in your own time and pace but need guidance? OUR Personal Exercise (PE) program is perfect for you. Meet two times with our personal trainer to develop a training plan to reach your goals. During the first meeting, your trainer will conduct the initial assessment, go over goals and likes/dislikes to exercise and more. They will then take this information and create a six-week program for you. During the second meeting, your trainer will take you through the program and answer questions that you have. The trainer will check in with you periodically to answer any questions you may have.

Group Exercise Classes

  • Group Fitness

    Free land exercise classes are available to members at no cost. Additional fees may apply to specialty classes. Members age 12 and above may participate in classes. Members under the age of 12 may participate in the classes designated for their age. 

    There will be no group exercise classes on holidays or shortened days due to holidays, unless specified.

  • Program Registration

    For all paid programs, members may register two weeks prior to the start of any particular month or session. No late registrations will be accepted. Drop-in fees will be available after the first week of class. All registrations are taken at the members’ services desk. Check the program guide for starting dates.

  • Program Fees

    Program Fees represent the cost of providing program activities or services not included in membership dues. Program fees must be paid in full at the time of registration in order to guarantee your spot in the program.

  • Aqua Zumba

    Do you enjoy the water? Do you enjoy dancing? Want to tone your body while also getting a cardio workout? Then try Aqua Zumba! In Aqua Zumba you will work on full-body toning by using the resistance of the water. You will also work on your cardiorespiratory system by dancing to fun, upbeat songs. It will feel more like a dance party than a workout class. This class is all in the shallow end of the water so no swimming ability is required. Join the dance party!

    Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement, and activity for daily living skills.     Activate your urge for variety! Splash offers fun, shallow-water movement to improve agility and flexibility while addressing cardiovascular, strength and endurance conditioning. No swimming ability required, and a Silver Sneakers kickboard or other aquatic equipment is used to improve strength, balance, and coordination.

Military and Adaptive Sports Training

Weekly Programming For Disabled Veterans

  • Program Goal

    We want to create a long-term impact for the Disabled Veterans in Northeast Ohio. 

  • Program Design

    • Individual and group strength training exercises from both ambulatory and wheelchair/chair level to promote fitness for life. 
    • Improving core strength, cardio, overall strength training and range of motion. 
    • Enhances body awareness focusing on balance and flexibility 
    • Post-workout meals provided 
    • Monthly nutritional options and healthy food choices
    • Opportunity to ask questions and socialize with peers

    As a result, these participants will be able to perform field events with improved techniques thus improving their abilities. They will gain better knowledge and understanding of lifting techniques and skills in order to use what they have learned, in their daily lives. The veterans have been able to increase their physical and mental health along with losing weight, gained confidence and gaining new friends. 

  • Types Of Injuries & Disabilities Served

    Our participants have the following injury/disability: knee amputations, traumatic brain injury, diabetes, spinal cord injury, PTSD, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, Multiple Sclerosis and has experience with many other injuries/disabilities.

    Ashtabula, Lake County, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Mahoning, Portage, Stark, Summit, Trumbull, and Erie County, Pennsylvania

  • Program Times

    Due to the number of Disabled Veterans and their different levels of injury/disability, we have a program coach who designs and runs the program along with 2-3 assistant coaches helping each week. These coaches spend an hour or more helping with any of the sports they coach.

    46 Veterans this past year served from Northeast Ohio & Northwestern PA

    Participants in our program have competed in the Valor Games, Buckeye Wheelchair Games, National Veterans Wheelchair Games, and the Golden Age Games

    John Wallace 

    • SPIRE Performance Director, holds a Master of Science degree in Exercise Science from Cleveland State University. John is a certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist by the NSCA and Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified from the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association. John was a member of the Vikings Men’s Soccer program where he first started gaining experience in the strength and conditioning field. John hosts the quarterly Wounded Warrior Weekend Camps at SPIRE Institute and has a plethora of experience working with PTSD.

    Charlie Powell

    • Throughout his extensive career, Powell has coached Olympians two NCAA individual champions, 18 NCAA All-Americans, one Pan Am Champion, 60 individual NCAA Championship Qualifiers, over 100 individual Conference Champions, over 100 All-East Athletes, two NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship Recipient, two Thouron Scholars, Canadian and Australian National Champions and over 50 Academic All-Ivy Team Recipients. Powell’s athletes set 15 conference records, 22 outdoor school records and 21 indoor school records. In addition to coaching the University of Pennsylvania teams, Powell has been the director of Penn Relays, distance Night, the coordinator of track events, and a member of the Penn Relays Planning committee since 1984. He also serves as a member of the Penn Relays high School and College Championship Committees. Powell is a former President of the Heptagonal Coaches Association and IC4A Track & Field Committee member. At the national level, he was chair of the TFA/USA Olympic Development 800-meter group from 2000-10, and an Olympic Development Committee member for the 800 to 1,500 events from 1998-2012. In 2001-02, Powell was selected as the Mondo Mid-Atlantic Coach of the Year by his peers from the United States Track Coaches Association.

Swim Lessons

SPIRE is currently not offering group swim lessons due to the COVID. Only private lessons are being offered.

  • Why Is Swimming Important?

    Swimming is lots of fun for people of all ages and children especially love getting in the water and enjoying themselves. … Swimming keeps your child’s heart and lungs healthy, improves strength and flexibility, increases stamina and even improves balance and posture..

  • Private Lesson: Parent/Child (Ages 6-36 months)

    Must be at least 6 months old and accompanied by a parent/guardian. This program helps children become comfortable in and around the water. During the program, parents will learn different support and holding techniques as well as how to help children learn and practice skills appropriate to their age.

  • Private Lesson: Preschool Aquatics 1

    This class is designed for children who do not have previous experience in a structured class setting or being away from their parents/guardians in the water. Children will work on basic swimming skills to become comfortable in the water. Skills will be learned through play and incidental learning to encourage a fun and enjoyable experience in the water. In addition, children start developing positive attitudes and safe practices around the water. There are no prerequisites required for this class.

  • Private Lesson: Preschool Aquatics 2

    The objective of Preschool 2 is to further develop basic aquatic skills. Children begin to perform these skills at a slightly more advanced level (for example, for longer lengths of time, for longer distances or in deeper water). Many skills in Preschool 1 are performed with assistance Preschool 2 marks the beginning of independent aquatic locomotion skills. Children continue to explore using simultaneous and alternating arm and leg actions on the front and back to gain greater proficiency in preparation for performing strokes. Successful completion of Preschool Aquatics 1, or prior approval is required to take this class.

  • Private Lesson: Preschool Aquatics 3

    The objective of Preschool 3 is to increase children’s proficiency in performing previously learned skills. This is accomplished by providing additional guided practice and increasing repetitions, distances, times or levels of refinement. The skills in level 3 are performed independently. Children improve their coordination and control of combined simultaneous arm and leg actions and alternating arm and let actions. New water safety topics are introduced, and previously acquired water safety knowledge and skills are reinforced. Successful completion of Preschool Aquatics 1 or prior approval is required to take this class.

  • Private Lesson: Learn to Swim Level 1- Introduction To Water Skills

    This class is designed to orient participants to the aquatic environment and to help them gain basic aquatic skills. In addition, participants start learning about how to be safe around water.

  • Private Lesson: Learn to Swim Level 2- Fundamental Aquatic Skills

    This class is designed for children who have successfully completed Level 1: Introduction to Water Skills. Learn to Swim Level 2 builds on the basic aquatic skills and water safety skills and concepts learned in Level 1. Participants begin to perform skills at a slightly more advanced level and begin gaining rudimentary propulsive skills on both the front and the back. This level marks the beginning of independent aquatic locomotion skills.

  • Private Lesson: Learn to Swim Level 3- Stroke Development

    This class builds on the skills learned in Levels 1 and 2. Participants learn to swim the front crawl and elementary backstroke at rudimentary and proficient levels, and are introduced to dolphin kicks. Upon successful completion of Level 3, participants will have achieved basic water competency in a pool environment.

  • Private Lesson: Learn to Swim Level 4- Stroke Improvement

    This class is designed for children who have successfully completed Level 3. In Level 4, participants improve their aquatic skills and increase their endurance by swimming the strokes learned in Level 3 for greater distances and with more advanced proficiency, Participants add arm actions to the previously learned breaststroke kick to learn the breaststroke. Participants also begin to learn the back crawl and butterfly, as well as the basics of performing a simple open turn at a wall.

  • Private Lesson: Learn to Swim Level 5- Stroke Refinement

    The objective of stroke refinement develops performance of all 5 strokes and increases student’ endurance to improve their distances. This level will also focus on the technique needed to be successful in Swim Team. Flip turns are introduced.

  • Private Swim Lessons

    SPIRE Fit’s Private Learn to Swim Lesson Program is a way for you or your child to get personalized instruction with one of our professional swim lesson instructors. Signing up for a SPIRE Private Swim Lesson gets you:

    • 6 sessions lasting 30 minutes each
    • You choose the dates and times of each session (no more than 3 per week)
    • You choose your instructor, and all sessions will be scheduled between the participant or participants parent/guardian and the SPIRE Swim Instructor

Types Of Memberships

  • Youth & Teen Memberships

    Youth/Teen memberships are available for youth/teens between 12-18 years.

    Youth/Teen members are entitled to the following benefits:

    • Members ages 12-18 have access to the gym during hours of operation
    • Youth/Teen members do not have guest privileges
    • Youth/Teen orientations are mandatory for all teens wishing to use the gym

    **Please note that a youth under the age of 12 may have a youth membership; however, it must be accompanied by an adult or senior membership. An example is a single parent, one adult and one youth.

  • Adult/Senior

    Adult membership is classified as any single member 19 years or older.

    Senior membership is classified as a single adult 65 years or older.

    As an adult or senior member with a gym membership, you are entitled to the following benefits:

    • Use of the gym during operating hours 
    • Striders program at no additional cost
    • Free group exercise (see the schedule for a listing of these classes)
    • Member rates on all paid fitness programming
  • Family Membership

    A family membership consists of one or two adults and their dependents under the age of 24 who live with them or are on the primary member’s tax return. Senior parents who live at the same address and are declared on the primary adult’s income taxes may also be included on the membership.

    Members with family memberships are entitled to the following benefits:
