College Basketball Dreams Become Reality for SPIRE Post Grad Students

09/02/2021

At SPIRE Institute & Academy (IA), our focus is on excellence in academics and comprehensive athletic training that will prepare our students for the future. Our student experience involves college planning and placement services that bring each student closer to their dreams of furthering their education, while allowing them to also advance their sports careers. We specialize in post-graduate programs that allow gap year students to continue their athletic, academic, and life skills development while giving them exposure to the decision-makers and coaches that matter for the student’s next step: college.

This year has been an important one for many of our students who are celebrating college commitments. We are very proud of our three additional post-grad basketball students who have been accepted into the colleges and universities that will change their lives.

Chan Ngot is excited for his chance to shine in college basketball with his acceptance into Georgetown College in Kentucky. Chan chose Georgetown because he wanted to follow the advice of his coaches, Gravelle Craig and Jeff Sparrow. He explains, “They told me to go where I am wanted, and where I can be given a platform to leave a mark.”  SPIRE opened doors for Chan in many ways. “I had more basketball footage to show college coaches, for one thing,” he explains. “SPIRE is well known for producing great student athletes that college recruiters want to look at. Attending SPIRE gives these recruiters and college coaches an idea of the type of player they can expect.” Chan plans to major in software engineering, aligned with graphic art design.

SPIRE post-graduate student Shammah Scott is celebrating his chance to shine as part of the Northwest Florida State College’s Raiders basketball team. Prior to joining SPIRE, the 6’2” guard helped the Shaker Heights Red Raiders reach one of their most accomplished seasons ever, with an average of 14.4 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.1 steals per game. During his senior season, Shammah established himself as one of Northeast Ohio’s premier guards. Shammah sees a bright future ahead with Northwest Florida State College, stating, “I want to end up playing Division I basketball. I just wanted to go to a school for the right fit and what’s best for me.”

Stay tuned for Andre Sheppard’s announcements!

SPIRE Director of Basketball Jeff Javorek is feeling optimistic about the path ahead for Andre, Chan, and Shammah. “Our ultimate goal with our post-graduate programs is to give these athletes a chance to hone their skills and be noticed by the key decision makers of universities and colleges across the nation. With their hard work and incredible talents, these three students will be taking confident steps into their futures. We at SPIRE are proud of each of them for their commitment to both sport and academics that has led them to this next step in their careers.”
