Growing up in Meadville, PA, Saskia Jager spent countless hours at MARC, first as one of the youngest skaters at the ice rink where her three brothers played hockey, and then as a competitive swimmer at the George J. Barco Aquatic Center.
When she was a pre-teen, Jager was getting out of bed before dawn to join Meadville internist and swimming enthusiast Dr. Paul Oyler at the MARC pool for open swim between 5:00-7:00 AM before school. The 17-year-old Jager also credits Paul Coppelli, her high school coach at Meadville Area High School, with helping her not only with her technique but also with her focus and mental toughness as well.
After a year of high school in Austria, Jager entered SPIRE Academy, the international high school and post graduate training and education academy in Geneva, OH, as a junior. She is currently working with Coach Thad Schultz, SPIRE’s Aquatics Director and Head Swimming coach — one of the sport’s most highly respected developers of talent, having worked with nine Olympians, four of whom were gold medalists – who is looking forward to “taking (her) swimming as far a (she) can.”
